BIO • Except for her worldwide travels, Janet Coleman has lived in Minneapolis all of her life. A lawyer by training, she decided to begin painting to provide balance in her life. Her attention to detail, presentation and composition developed her imagination. Studying with a local artist, she discovered her artistic "voice" with pastels and oil paint.
ARTIST STATEMENT • I learned early on that every mark an artist makes is a valid and valuable expression in the creative process; there is no right, no wrong. It just is. In the beginning, my work focused on the horizon in painted, abstract, landscapes. In the late 1990's, I picked up a camera and my painted landscapes segued into complementary photographic abstractions. The photographs have a painterly quality to them that I find very appealing. And my subject matter has broadened to include portraits of wonderful people, industrial sites and adirondack chairs!
