ARTIST STATEMENT • My imagination is stimulated when I come upon an image, whether it is outdoors or indoors, ordinary or unique, that captures my interest and that I know I want to turn into a painting. When I begin a painting, I have a vision of the completed work and it’s the process from beginning to end, the working out of challenges, that is the rewarding part of painting. Sometimes the solutions come easily and sometimes there are many obstacles to overcome before I’m finished. The following quote best expresses my approach to art: “I have always been motivated, not by something inside me that needed to be expressed but rather by the wonder of something I see that I want to share with the rest of the world….” (The quote is by the photographer Dorothea Lange in her biography by Linda Gordon)
